Some things to look for when choosing which bank to use is whether the bank or credit union offers free checks and debit card, low minimum balance requirement, and low fees if any. Helping your client learn to manage their money is critical for helping them to stay in their homes long term.

Part of the role of the case manager is helping clients get the most out of their food stamps, talking with them about the importance of paying key bills first, such as rent and court ordered expenses and remembering to pay things that will effect credit score will help ensure that your client can build a positive score.

Food can be a place where clients can over spend their money if they are not given the right resources. Suggestions that could be helpful it to make a groceries list to avoid over spending, and to use coupons! Food stamps are a great tool and when used correctly can ensure that your client will have food on the table.

Budgeting is an important tool for your client to learn so they will be able to pay their rent and or utilities, food, and any other cost. Writing down what they need to pay for each month with their income can help them to visualize how much extra money they have.
